Gresham Mourns the Loss of Patricia Huggins Edwards, a Lifelong Community Servant

Gresham, South Carolina – Patricia Huggins Edwards, affectionately known as "Tish," passed away at her home on the morning of August 20, 2024, after a brief illness. She was 73 years old. The community is mourning the loss of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many through her work and kindness.

Patricia was born on December 9, 1950, in Mullins, South Carolina, to James F. “Jim” Huggins and the late Ann Collins Huggins. She spent her life in Mullins and Marion, where she was known for her dedication to public service. Patricia worked for many years at the Marion County Judge of Probate Office, where she became a familiar and friendly face to many in the community. Even after her retirement, she continued to serve others by providing care and comfort to families in need.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas L. Edwards, Jr., of Gresham, along with her children, David Owens of Mullins, John Owens of Mullins, and Emily Owens of San Diego, California. Her legacy includes her cherished grandchildren: AnnaClaire Owens, Carrington Owens, Lucy Owens, Liam Yang, and Elizabeth Yang. Patricia is also survived by her father, James F. “Jim” Huggins, her brother, Jimmy Huggins, and many special friends who will deeply miss her presence.

A graveside memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, with Reverend Art Ramsey officiating.

The community has expressed their sorrow and shared memories of Patricia on social media. Rhonda Ferguson wrote, “So sorry. Prayers to all family and friends.” Kimberly Briley Gardner remembered her as “such a sweet soul,” offering condolences and prayers to her family. Donna Alford Driggers added, “My thoughts and prayers are with Trish’s family!”

Other friends and community members echoed these sentiments, emphasizing Patricia’s impact on their lives. Lynn Lewis Graham recalled how helpful Patricia was during her time at the Probate office, while Joyce Capps expressed her sorrow, stating, “I am sorry to hear about the passing of Tish!! She was a great friend and was loved by everyone!!” The outpouring of love and support highlights the lasting impression Patricia left on those who knew her.

As the community prepares to say their final goodbyes, Patricia’s memory will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. Her kindness, dedication, and love for her family and community will not be forgotten.
