Harry Lawrence Moynihan, Beloved Selma Resident and Esteemed Doctor, Passes Away at 61

Selma, Indiana – Harry Lawrence Moynihan, a highly respected resident of Selma and a dedicated medical professional, unexpectedly passed away on August 10, 2024, at the age of 61 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. His death has left the community and his family in deep mourning.

Harry, born on May 9, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, was the son of Leslie John and Wanda Jean Moynihan. He spent his formative years in Chicago before moving to Cedar Lake, Indiana, during his teenage years. He pursued higher education at the University of Chicago, where he earned his degree in 1985, followed by a medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1991.

After completing his education, Harry dedicated over three decades to his medical career. He served as the Chief Resident of Internal Medicine at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie and later at St. Vincent – Randolph Hospital in Winchester, Indiana. More recently, he practiced at Reid Internal Medicine Clinic in Richmond, Indiana, where he was known for his compassionate care and commitment to his patients.

Harry met the love of his life, Sue, in 1986 at "The Pantry," a restaurant owned by his parents in Lowell, Indiana. The couple married on June 1, 1991, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Lowell. Together, they raised six children: Joey, Jamie, Jenny, John, Jake, and Jason. Harry’s devotion to his family was unwavering, and he will be remembered as a loving husband and father.

The community’s grief is reflected in the numerous heartfelt messages shared on social media. Joey Moynihan, Harry’s son, expressed his sorrow, saying, "We miss him so much already. Doesn’t seem real." Friends and family have rallied around the Moynihan family during this difficult time. Kyle Ludwick shared his condolences, stating, "Wow, incredibly sorry to see this, Joey. Praying for you and the family." Similarly, Shawn Reiner added, "I’m so sorry to hear Joey, praying for you guys."

Harry was a deeply spiritual man and a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Muncie. His faith and commitment to his community were evident in all aspects of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie John and Wanda Jean Moynihan, and was their only child.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Elm Ridge Funeral Home in Muncie on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass in Harry’s honor will be celebrated at Saint Mary Catholic Church on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.

Harry Lawrence Moynihan’s passing is a profound loss to all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for his family and community will be cherished and remembered by many.
