Souris, Prince Edward Island – The community of Souris is in deep mourning following the tragic death of Jacob Outhouse Pei, a beloved resident and member of the 36th Signal Regiment. Jacob passed away on Sunday, August 11th, 2024, in a car accident, leaving a void in the hearts of many.
Born on June 20, 2001, Jacob was known for his strong sense of teamwork and courteous behavior, particularly during his time as a talented hockey player for the Kings County Kings. His dedication and integrity extended beyond the ice rink, earning him respect throughout the community.
Jacob attended École La-Belle-Cloche for ten years before transferring to Souris High School, where he graduated in 2019. His eagerness to learn and active participation in school activities made him a cherished student. After high school, Jacob pursued a career in the military, serving as a Signal Operator in the 36th Signal Regiment, a role he was deeply committed to.
Jacob leaves behind his grieving parents, Ronnie and Cindy (MacDonald) Outhouse; his sister, Symonne Outhouse (Jordan Roche); his twin brother, Jesse Outhouse; and his nieces, Wren and Nina. He is also survived by his grandmother, Ann MacDonald, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. His close friend, Neeve Mitchell, is among those deeply affected by his loss. Jacob was predeceased by his close friends and grandparents, Johnny and Margaret Outhouse, and Leonard Walter MacDonald.
Cindy Lee Outhouse, Jacob’s mother, expressed the family’s sorrow on Facebook, stating, "My words are very few at the moment but tomorrow Jacob Outhouse will be coming home from the Halifax Infirmary Hospital via Ferry Boat escorted by the Halifax Military arriving at The Wood Islands Ferry Terminal at 11:15 am. When the boat arrives on PEI, the Military will escort Jacob to Dingwell Funeral Home. All are welcome to join along the way. We are too heartbroken and in shock to say much more right now. Love to you all."
The outpouring of support from the community has been overwhelming. Friends and neighbors have taken to social media to share their condolences. Emily Ching wrote, "Sending all my love," while Angela Patton shared, "My heart is with you all." Others, like Shirley Brown and Whitney Dawn Chaisson, expressed their deep sorrow and sent prayers to Jacob’s family.
Jacob’s body is currently at Dingwell Funeral Home, where a visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 5 to 8 PM. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 2:00 PM at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Souris, followed by the burial at the church cemetery.
The community continues to rally around Jacob’s family during this heartbreaking time, offering love, prayers, and support as they prepare to say their final goodbyes.
