Henry James Taylor of Tabor City, NC, Passes Away at Age 83, Leaving Behind a Legacy of Service and Dedication

Tabor City, NC – Henry James Taylor, a former United States Air Force aircraft mechanic and a long-time resident of Tabor City, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the age of 83. He died at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina.

Born on January 11, 1941, in Columbus County, North Carolina, Henry was the son of the late Harley James Taylor and Helen Singletary Taylor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Long Taylor, and his sister, Sue Taylor Lay.

Henry’s distinguished military career began in 1959 when he served as an aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force. His service spanned significant historical events, including the Korean War, Cuban Missile Crisis, Berlin Wall Crisis, Kennedy Assassination, and the Vietnam War. His dedication to his country was a cornerstone of his life.

Following his military service, Henry pursued a successful career in the HVAC industry, where he worked for over 50 years. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were widely recognized by colleagues and clients alike. Beyond his professional life, Henry was an avid collector of guns and knives, passions that reflected his strong opinions and unique personality.

Henry is survived by his son, Cameron Shayne Taylor, and his wife, April Edwards Taylor, of Garner, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Kamryn Shaye Taylor and James Thomas Taylor; and two sisters, Ruby Taylor Shelley and Peggy Taylor Smith. He also leaves behind a loyal friend, Linda Jacobs, who shared in his life’s joys and challenges. Known affectionately as the “Candy Man,” Henry was well-loved for his habit of sharing sweets with others, a small gesture that left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

Funeral services for Henry James Taylor will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM at New Life Baptist Church. A burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Gideons International, organizations that held special significance to Henry.

Henry James Taylor will be remembered not only for his service to his country and his professional achievements but also for the love and dedication he showed to his family and friends. His legacy will continue to live on through those who were fortunate enough to know him.
