Horizon Elementary School Mourns the Loss of Principal Chris Helmer Following a Courageous Battle with Cancer

Plymouth, Wisconsin – The community of Horizon Elementary School is mourning the loss of their principal, Chris Helmer, who passed away on August 11, 2024, after a two-year battle with colorectal cancer. Helmer, 52, was known for his deep commitment to education, having spent over two decades in the field, primarily as a special education teacher in various Wisconsin school districts before taking on the role of principal just one year ago.

Chris Helmer’s journey with cancer began with a hopeful prognosis, but the disease proved aggressive, spreading rapidly and ultimately leading to his passing. Despite his brief tenure as principal, Helmer left a significant impact on the students, staff, and community at Horizon Elementary. His dedication to both his profession and his family was widely admired.

On social media, tributes poured in as news of Helmer’s passing spread. A heartfelt post on Facebook from "RIP News Worldwide" shared, "R.I.P Chris Helmer," acknowledging the loss felt by many.

The Helmer family, particularly Chris’s wife Tina, who is a school psychologist, is now facing the challenging task of coping with his loss. Tina expressed her deep love and respect for Chris, recalling a promise she made to him to remain active and engaged even after his passing.

As the community reflects on Chris Helmer’s life and contributions, they remember not just a dedicated educator but a devoted husband and father. His legacy at Horizon Elementary and in the broader educational community will be remembered with great respect and admiration.

Funeral arrangements for Chris Helmer will be communicated by his family in due course.
