Hubert Andrew "Andy" Slaughter of Bland, Virginia, Passes Away at 59, Community Mourns Loss

Bland, Virginia – Hubert Andrew "Andy" Slaughter, a beloved member of the Bland community, passed away peacefully at his home on August 21, 2024, at the age of 59. Born on March 18, 1965, in Bluefield, Virginia, Andy was widely respected for his hardworking nature and his diverse skill set.

Andy was known as a "jack of all trades," excelling in various occupations such as logging, carpentry, and farming. His self-employed ventures demonstrated his dedication and commitment to his work. Beyond his professional life, Andy had a deep love for the outdoors, frequently engaging in activities like traveling, camping, fishing, hunting, and spending time with horses and mules.

Andy leaves behind his cherished companion, Rachel Havens, and his beloved Australian Shepherd, Winston. He is also survived by two sons, three grandchildren, his father, three brothers and their spouses, two sisters, one half-brother, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Many dear friends, considered by Andy as family, also mourn his loss.

The community has expressed their condolences and shared fond memories of Andy on social media. Eric Austin posted, "Rest in peace, Uncle Andy. I haven’t been as close to you in recent years as I would have liked to have been. But when we were close, we would always talk about anything and everything, and we would laugh a lot! You had the most contagious laugh, and I think I will miss that the most. I love you, Andy."

Others, including Travis Gladitsch, Krystle Dawn Umbarger, and Lisa Beck Ridenhour, also shared their sympathies, offering prayers and condolences to Andy’s family during this difficult time.

A graveside service will be held in Andy’s honor on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Morning Star Cemetery in Bland, Virginia. Donnie Fink and JB Baldridge will officiate the service, allowing family and friends to come together to celebrate Andy’s life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, Andy’s family requests that memorial donations be made to the 4-H Livestock Club in his memory. Donations can be made payable to the Treasurer of Virginia Tech and mailed to the Pulaski Extension Office, 143 Third St. NW, Suite 3, Pulaski, VA 24301.

Andy Slaughter’s life will be remembered for his dedication, adventurous spirit, and the deep connections he made with those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community he touched.
