James Christopher Jackson, Beloved Owner of Adventures on the Great Miami, Passes Away in Tipp City, Ohio

Tipp City, Ohio – James Christopher Jackson, affectionately known as Chris, tragically passed away on August 12, 2024, at the age of 65 due to an auto accident. Chris was a well-known and cherished figure in Tipp City, where he owned and operated the popular canoe and kayak livery, Adventures on the Great Miami.

Chris was born on August 16, 1958, in Dayton, Ohio, to James Harvey Jackson and Ruth (Suttmiller) Jackson-Tokasey. Although his father had preceded him in death, Chris leaves behind a large and loving family, including his mother, two daughters—Sydney Ann Jackson and Kayte Lynn Jackson—and seven siblings.

Chris’s passing has deeply impacted the community. He was remembered for his vibrant personality, love of the outdoors, and dedication to his customers. His business, Adventures on the Great Miami, became a beloved local destination under his leadership. Before embarking on his adventure business, Chris worked at his family’s restaurant, Suttmiller’s, in downtown Dayton, where he further cemented his legacy of service and community involvement.

Community members have taken to social media to express their grief and share fond memories of Chris. Brittany Miller, a frequent visitor to Adventures on the Great Miami, wrote, "This is terrible! We love Adventures on the Great Miami and always enjoyed our conversations with Chris! Our hearts go out to his family."

Jay Ladi added, "Hate to hear this. He was such an amazing soul. Praying for everyone who knew him, especially his family! Such a legend, such an icon, a beautiful person gone too soon!"

A Mass celebrating Chris’s life will be held on Saturday, August 17, at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Vandalia. Following the service, a potluck-styled gathering will take place at 1995 Ross Road, Tipp City, Ohio, where family and friends are invited to share stories and celebrate the life of "Action Jackson."

In lieu of flowers, Chris’s family encourages attendees to bring a dish to share and to join in the celebration of his adventurous spirit, reflecting the way Chris lived his life to the fullest. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but his legacy of joy, kindness, and community will continue to inspire those who knew him.
