James Fox, DeFuniak Springs Racing Community Mourns Loss of Navarre High Graduate in Fatal Southern Raceway Crash

James Fox, a well-known figure in the racing community from DeFuniak Springs, Florida, tragically passed away following a fatal accident at Southern Raceway in Milton, Florida. The accident occurred during an IMCA Modified race on Saturday night, August 10, 2024, when Fox reportedly experienced a medical emergency that led to the crash. He was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

James Fox, a Navarre High School graduate, was a dedicated and experienced racer, having competed in four IMCA Modified races during the 2024 season, with a best finish of fifth place. His recent race was supported by local sponsors, including Paul Patrick Electric, Integrity Air Conditioning and Heating, and Navarre Flooring, showcasing the strong community ties that played a significant role in his racing career.

The Fox family’s involvement in the racing world extends beyond James. His son, Dakota Fox, is also a prominent driver in the IMCA Modified division at Southern Raceway. Dakota has shown exceptional skill this season, securing two top-five finishes and eight top-ten placements. The father-son duo was a familiar and beloved sight on the track, embodying the Fox family’s deep-rooted passion for the sport.

Following the tragic news, the racing community and friends of James Fox took to social media to express their grief and support for the Fox family. Taryn Sego shared, "In a racing community, one person is hurt, everyone shares that pain. Prayers to everyone there." Lisa Gambrell echoed these sentiments, stating, "Praying for the family, friends, and the race car driver!" Others, including Kim Dunsford and Sam Wadsworth, also offered their prayers and condolences to the grieving family.

The accident has left the DeFuniak Springs and Milton communities in mourning, as they remember James Fox not only for his contributions on the racetrack but also for the strong bonds he formed with those around him. The Southern Raceway held a moment of silence and a prayer over the intercom after the crash, bringing the racing community together in remembrance of a man who was deeply loved and respected.
