San Jose, California – A tragic accident on Monday claimed the lives of Jocelyn Moran, 47, and her 14-year-old son when a wrong-way driver collided with their vehicle on Highway 85 in San Jose.
Moran and her son were traveling in a Tesla Model Y when a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, driven by Duncan McQuarrie, 39, of Orlando, Florida, crashed into them head-on. The collision occurred near the Highway 87 split. According to the California Highway Patrol, McQuarrie was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 85, causing the fatal accident.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 3:40 p.m. on Monday. Despite their efforts, Moran and her son were pronounced dead at the scene. McQuarrie sustained severe injuries and was transported to a hospital. He remains hospitalized as of Tuesday and is under investigation for potential felony manslaughter charges.
McQuarrie has a history of driving offenses, including driving without a license, possession of cocaine, and drunk driving. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the California Highway Patrol at 408-961-0900.
