John McHale, 67, Tragically Killed in North Babylon DWI Crash Involving 1987 Ford Mustang

North Babylon, New York – John McHale, a 67-year-old resident of North Babylon, tragically lost his life in a fatal crash on Sunday evening, August 18, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 6:09 p.m. on Bay Shore Road near Duke Street, according to local authorities.

The crash involved a 1987 Ford Mustang driven by David Valles, 31, also of North Babylon. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road and collided with a pole. McHale was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severe impact of the crash.

Patricia Leahy, 54, of East Islip, was a passenger in the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. She was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment. Meanwhile, Valles, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore.

Authorities have charged Valles with driving while intoxicated (DWI), and his vehicle has been impounded for a safety inspection.
