John O’Neal Way, 48, Tragically Killed in Dorchester County ATV Collision

Dorchester County, South Carolina – John O’Neal Way, 48, has been identified as the victim of a fatal collision that occurred on Saturday, August 18, 2024, in Dorchester County. The accident, involving a Polaris ATV and a Nissan Altima, happened on US 178 near Bryant Road, approximately two miles west of Harleyville.

The collision took place around 4:50 p.m., when both vehicles were traveling east on US 178. According to reports, the Nissan Altima collided with the ATV, causing it to veer off the road and overturn. Tragically, Way was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:06 p.m. The driver of the Nissan Altima, whose condition remains unknown, was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The news of John O’Neal Way’s passing has deeply impacted the community. His cousin, Neal Way, expressed his grief on Facebook, stating, "Well folks, my first cousin was taken from us way too early in his life. He and his contagious laugh will be missed for sure."

Others in the community have also shared their condolences online. Freddie Stanfill wrote, "Prayers sent, sorry for your loss," while Rob Griffith added, "Praying for you and family." Phillip Roberson and Cliff Dandridge also expressed their sorrow, offering prayers and condolences to the family.
