Jordan High School Student Kian Hamilton Fatally Stabbed in Sandy Parking Lot on August 23rd, Community Mourns

Sandy, Utah – The community of Sandy is in mourning following the tragic death of Jordan High School student Kian Hamilton, who was fatally stabbed on Friday, August 23rd, in a shocking incident that has left the local community reeling.

The 16-year-old was attacked in the parking lot of the Mountain American Expo Center located at 9575 S. State Street. Emergency responders arrived swiftly and administered life-saving procedures before transporting Kian to a nearby hospital. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect, also a juvenile, has been apprehended and is currently in custody. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.

In response to the tragedy, the Canyons School District has communicated with parents and made counselors available to support grieving students and teachers.

The outpouring of support for Kian’s family has been immense. Jocelynn Alley, who organized a GoFundMe campaign to assist the family, described Kian as a "loving soul and a kind-hearted person" who had a bright future ahead of him. The campaign seeks to provide the family with the support they need during this devastating time.

On social media, many have expressed their sorrow and shared memories of Kian. Anthony Wilson wrote, "We’ll miss you, Kian," while Dani Dixon added, "Sending you so much love and prayers… I’m here if you need to vent, talk, let off steam, etc. Just know I’m here." Stephanie Marie Gallegos Lopez echoed these sentiments, posting, "I am so sorry to hear the news, fam. I am sending my prayers and condolences. If there is anything you need, let me know. Much love."

As the Sandy community comes to terms with this heartbreaking loss, the support and love shown by friends, family, and even strangers have highlighted the profound impact Kian had on those who knew him.
