Joy Swinton of Waterloo, Iowa Passes Away Suddenly, Community Rallies to Support Funeral Expenses

Waterloo, Iowa – Joy Swinton, a resident of Waterloo, passed away unexpectedly on August 26, 2024. Joy, who was known for her love of her son and her two Siamese cats, was attending classes at Hawkeye Community College, working towards a degree in Social Services. Her sudden death has left her loved ones and the community in shock.

Joy was predeceased by her mother, Elaine Swinton, her father, Ron Swinton, and her sister. She is survived by her son, Jared Scott, who is now faced with the financial burden of covering her funeral expenses.

To help ease this burden, Joy’s close friend, Cinda Mendez Ruiz, has organized a fundraiser to cover the costs of Joy’s cremation and a celebration of life. The fundraiser has set a goal of $5,000, with $270 raised so far from four donations.

Cinda Mendez Ruiz shared her thoughts on Facebook, saying, “Still looking for donations for my best friend’s cremation costs and to cover a celebration of life. If you don’t feel comfortable with GoFundMe, I have cash app, Venmo, you could send a check, or I could meet up. Any thing would help. Thanks to everyone in advance.”

As the community rallies together, contributions have begun to come in. Notable donors include Thomas Nicholas Keith, who contributed $100, Antonio Munoz with $50, and Julie Harder, who also donated $100. James Meeker added $20 to the fund.

Joy’s untimely passing has brought an outpouring of support from friends and family who are committed to ensuring that she receives a proper farewell. Those who wish to contribute can do so through the GoFundMe page or by contacting Cinda directly.

Joy Swinton’s legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the memories she created. The community’s support during this difficult time is a testament to the impact she had on those around her.
