Seoul, South Korea – Lee Joo Hyung, a prominent program director known for his work on popular Korean TV shows such as "Three Meals a Day: Gochang Village" and "New Journey to the West," tragically passed away in a car accident on August 22. He was 34 years old.
The accident occurred at 12:26 a.m. in Sangam-dong, Mapo, Seoul, as Lee was returning home from work. The taxi he was traveling in collided with a parked tour bus and another car. Sadly, Lee Joo Hyung was pronounced dead at the scene. The taxi driver, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to a hospital. According to reports, the driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol or other substances at the time of the accident. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Lee Joo Hyung joined CJ ENM in 2016 and contributed to several notable productions, including "Three Meals a Day: Gochang Village," "New Journey to the West," "Great Escape," and "Comedy Big League." In July of the previous year, he moved to Borderless Film, a company under the Korean OTT platform Coupang Play, where he worked on Disney’s sports documentary "Full Count."
Lee was not only a talented director but also an expectant father, with his first child due in December. His untimely death has left his family, including his pregnant wife, and colleagues in deep mourning. His funeral took place on August 24.
