Koty M. Diaz of Janesville Arrested After Alleged Drunk Driving Incident Leads to Double Fatality on Delavan Drive

Janesville, Wisconsin – In the early hours of Saturday, August 18, 2024, Koty M. Diaz, 32, was involved in a tragic accident at the intersection of East Delavan Drive and Beloit Avenue in Janesville. Diaz is accused of running a red light, resulting in a collision with another vehicle that claimed the lives of two passengers.

According to the Janesville police, emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 2:15 a.m. The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the two victims, who were in the vehicle traveling north on Beloit Avenue, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Sergeant SD Welte of the Janesville Police Department reported that Diaz showed signs of intoxication and failed multiple field sobriety tests. A blood test was ordered, with results pending. Diaz was subsequently arrested on preliminary charges, including two counts of homicide by drunk driving and operating a vehicle after revocation with intent to kill.

The news has sparked a range of reactions on social media. Cody Johnston expressed his sorrow, stating, "I’m sorry to their families and Koty Diaz, I’ll pray for mercy on your soul. My thoughts and prayers go out for his family as well." Conversely, Audrey Khairghadam voiced anger, commenting, "He deserves no prayers of mercy!! He murdered my friends." Another user, Heather Rynes, highlighted the principle of innocence until proven guilty, stating, "It’s sad! My thoughts are with the deceased family. However, in this country, you are innocent until proven guilty."

As the investigation continues, the community is left grappling with the tragic loss and the legal proceedings that will follow.
