Lake Cormorant Resident Michael Wayne Skaggs II Passes Away at 36, Community Mourns His Loss

Lake Cormorant, Mississippi – Michael Wayne Skaggs II, a beloved resident of Lake Cormorant, passed away unexpectedly on August 25, 2024, at the age of 36 at Methodist Hospital of Olive Branch. Born on November 23, 1987, in Memphis, Tennessee, Michael was known for his deep love for his family and his passion for the outdoors.

Michael graduated from Hernando High School and earned an associate degree in business administration from Northwest Mississippi Junior College. He worked as a Sales Manager at National Lift in Memphis, TN, where he was cherished not only as a colleague but also as a friend. Michael was known for his dedication, positivity, and his unwavering commitment to his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife, Kelsie, and his son, Michael Bohannon Skaggs, both of Lake Cormorant, Mississippi. Michael also leaves behind his mother, Barbara Stacks, and her husband, Benny, of Hernando, Mississippi; his father, Mickey Skaggs, of Tunica, Mississippi; his brother, Brandon Skaggs, of Nashville, Tennessee; and his two stepbrothers, Jay Stacks and his wife, Kelsey, of Southaven, Mississippi, and Brandon Stacks of Belden, Mississippi.

Visitation for Michael Wayne Skaggs II will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home in Hernando, Mississippi, followed by a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery.

The community has rallied around Michael’s family during this difficult time. A fundraiser organized by Mark Cornstubble has raised $875 of a $2,500 goal to assist with immediate expenses, including funeral costs and household needs. Contributions have been made by several individuals, with Keith DuBose making the top donation of $100.

Friends and family have expressed their sorrow and condolences on social media. Brittany Bittle wrote, "So young… praying for your family from Millington." Katt Bettz shared, "So very sorry to hear this. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I pray God’s comfort and peace over you all who loved him." Similarly, Teri Holt remembered Michael by saying, "He had a big smile every time I would see him."

The outpouring of support and heartfelt messages continues as the community mourns the loss of a cherished individual, whose memory will be honored in the hearts of those who knew him.
