Lancaster Community Mourns the Loss of Retired Sgt. Jamie Rollins, Pioneering D.A.R.E. Officer and Victim’s Advocate

Lancaster, Pennsylvania – Today, the Lancaster community comes together to honor the memory of Retired Sgt. Jamie Rollins of the Lancaster Police Department, who passed away on Friday, August 2nd, 2024. Her passing is a significant loss for all who knew her, as she leaves behind a legacy of dedicated service and heartfelt commitment to her community.

Jamie Rollins began her career with the Lancaster Police Department in October 1985 as a foot patrol officer. She quickly made a name for herself with her dedication and compassion. Her career was marked by impactful roles, including her pioneering work in the D.A.R.E. program, which focused on educating young people about the dangers of drug use.

During the late 1990s, Jamie played a crucial role in developing the D.A.R.E. program in Lancaster. Her enthusiasm for teaching and genuine concern for the well-being of the city’s youth left a lasting impression on countless students. She was known for her ability to connect with young people and make complex topics relatable and engaging.

In March 2005, Jamie retired as a Sergeant Victim’s Advocate, a position she earned after a severe vehicle accident. Her career as a victim’s advocate was groundbreaking; she was the department’s very first to take on this role. Jamie was instrumental in creating and shaping the victim’s advocate program, ensuring it provided essential support and resources for those affected by crime.

The Lancaster Police Department expressed their deep respect for Jamie, with the Lancaster PD posting on Facebook, "We hold the memory of Retired Sgt. Rollins in deep honor and respect."

Many community members also shared their memories and condolences on social media. Tee Bailey commented, "The best ever!! RIH," while Mary Lynn Crockett-Mingo reflected, "Such a sweet sweet lady… my sincerest sympathy to her family and friends." Sherri Gamble remembered Jamie’s work, stating, "I remember her quite well when I taught at Dobson and then Indian Land. She was amazing! May she Rest In Peace."

Monique Durham Kirk praised her D.A.R.E. work, "She was the best! Loved having her as a D.A.R.E. Officer!" Brittney Hammond Helms added, "I had no idea she passed… she was so great! I really believe the Dare program would have not been as impactful if she hadn’t been the lead. Condolences to the family."

Sue Bryson-Pigg highlighted Jamie’s devotion, saying, "Jamie Dabney Rollings was a special lady that devoted herself to her family, friends, and career. She will definitely be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Strawberry, Jeremy, and the rest of the family."

As the community reflects on the contributions of Retired Sgt. Jamie Rollins, it is clear her work in the D.A.R.E. program and as a victim’s advocate will continue to inspire and guide those who follow in her footsteps. Jamie Rollins will be remembered not just for her professional achievements but for the compassion and care she brought to every aspect of her work.
