Latesha Washington Killed in South Los Angeles Hit-and-Run; Community Seeks Justice and Support for Funeral Expenses

South Los Angeles, California – Latesha Washington, a 43-year-old woman, tragically lost her life in a hit-and-run accident that occurred on Friday night at the intersection of 88th Street and Central Avenue. The incident has left her family and the local community in mourning as they seek justice and financial support for her funeral.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Washington was struck by a vehicle while walking outside of the crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leaving Washington critically injured. Despite the prompt response by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, Washington was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified Washington on Wednesday, confirming the devastating news for her loved ones. In response to the tragedy, the city has announced a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the suspect responsible for the hit-and-run.

Washington’s family, devastated by the sudden loss, is now facing the additional burden of raising $8,000 for her funeral and repass expenses. Lakesha Adkins, Washington’s daughter, took to Facebook to share the heartbreaking news and to appeal for help.

“Dear friends and family, we are devastated to share the news that my beloved mother, Latesha Washington, was tragically struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver going 80 mph. She did not have insurance, and we are now faced with the task of raising $8,000 for her funeral and repass expenses. Any contribution, no matter how big or small, would be greatly appreciated as we try to give my mother the dignified farewell she deserves,” Adkins wrote.

The plea for help has garnered support from the community, with many expressing their condolences and willingness to contribute to the funeral fund. The family’s GoFundMe page, titled “Help Us Give Latesha Washington a Dignified Farewell,” has been set up to facilitate donations.
