Leeds Shooting – Detective Chief Inspector Lee Townley Leads Investigation After Man Shot in Stainbeck Avenue Incident

Leeds, West Yorkshire – A 27-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting incident in Leeds this afternoon, prompting a significant police response and an ongoing investigation led by Detective Chief Inspector Lee Townley of the West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

The incident occurred around 2:47 PM when the ambulance service contacted the police after being dispatched to Stainbeck Road, near the junction with Stainbeck Avenue. Upon arrival, armed officers found the man further up Stainbeck Road, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was quickly transported to the hospital, where he is now in stable condition, and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

A large forensic scene has been established and will remain in place overnight as detectives work to gather evidence and conduct specialist searches. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes as the investigation continues.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Townley stated, “We are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and are working to identify those involved. We take the illicit use of guns on our streets very seriously and urge anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage to come forward to assist with the investigation.”
