Louisa Gonzalez-Hayes, 68, Killed in Wrong-Way Car Crash on Route 33 in Hamilton Township

Hamilton Township, Pennsylvania – Louisa Gonzalez-Hayes, a 68-year-old woman from Monroe County, tragically lost her life in a wrong-way collision on Route 33 in Hamilton Township on Sunday evening.

According to Monroe County Coroner Thomas Yanac, Gonzalez-Hayes was driving a Hyundai Accent southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 33 when she collided with a Subaru Forester. The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. between Route 209 and Interstate 80, near mile marker 27.6.

Despite the efforts of the Subaru driver to avoid the collision, the impact was unavoidable. The Hyundai ended up on top of the center median guardrail, and Gonzalez-Hayes was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner confirmed that she died from multiple blunt-force injuries and ruled her death accidental.

Gonzalez-Hayes was the only occupant in her vehicle. Tragically, a dog was also found deceased in the car.

The occupants of the Subaru Forester sustained serious injuries and were transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono in East Stroudsburg for treatment. Their current condition has not been disclosed.

Pennsylvania State Police, with spokesperson Trooper Anthony Petroski III, stated that the crash is still under investigation. The authorities are looking into the circumstances that led to the wrong-way driving incident.

This tragic accident has left the Hamilton Township community mourning the loss of Louisa Gonzalez-Hayes, as the investigation continues to unfold.
