Martayvious Evans Identified as Victim in Fatal Rockford Shooting, Police Seek Public’s Help in Ongoing Investigation

Rockford, Illinois – A tragic shooting early Sunday morning has left the Rockford community in mourning after the death of 26-year-old Martayvious Evans. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity on Monday, August 19, 2024, following the incident that also left two others injured.

The shooting occurred in the 4500 block of Governor’s Drive, where police responded to reports of gunfire around 3:50 a.m. on August 18. Upon arriving, officers found Evans suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite receiving immediate medical care, Evans was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

In addition to Evans, two other individuals were injured in the incident. A 28-year-old man sustained injuries to his arm and hand, while a 35-year-old woman was shot in the lower leg. Both were treated at local hospitals and have since been released.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, focusing on uncovering the motive and identifying any suspects involved. The Rockford Police Department has urged the community to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in solving the case.
