Toronto, Ohio – Mary Elizabeth Grimes, a dedicated member of the Toronto, Ohio, community, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio. She was 73 years old.
Mary Elizabeth (Sokol) Grimes was born on February 18, 1951, in Steubenville, Ohio, to the late Michael P. and Elizabeth Lucille (Abramowicz) Sokol. A lifelong resident of Toronto, she devoted 43 years of her life to serving others as a Registered Nurse at Trinity Medical Center, where her compassion and dedication left a lasting impact on countless patients.
A committed member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Mary was deeply involved in her community. She was a former member of the Red Hats and an active participant in the Toronto Pool Ladies, where her vibrant personality and caring nature were cherished by those who knew her.
Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Jackie Grimes, and her brother, Michael Sokol. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Thomas A. Grimes, whom she married on March 3, 1973. Her legacy continues through her son, Tommy Grimes, his wife, Jodie, and her beloved grandson, Landon Grimes. Mary also leaves behind her sister, Theresa Popp, her brother, Joey Sokol, and her sisters-in-law, Linda Moore and Linda Sokol, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In accordance with her wishes, Mary will be cremated. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church, with the date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Tony Teramana Cancer Center in Steubenville, Ohio.
Mary Elizabeth Grimes will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire those she touched throughout her life.
