Michelle Peduto, Catholic Schools Leader in Pittsburgh, Dies After Battling Cancer at Home in Sewickley

Michelle Peduto, the Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, passed away on August 13, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She died at her home in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and faith that deeply impacted the community she served.

Peduto was known for her steadfast leadership, particularly during challenging times, such as the diocesan-wide school reorganization and the unforeseen challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. She guided the Catholic school system with grace, ensuring the continuity of education while prioritizing the safety of students and staff.

Bishop David Zubik expressed his admiration for Peduto, stating, "She was a beautiful example of deep trust in the Lord. She leaves us a legacy of what it means to work for the building of God’s kingdom."

Michelle Peduto’s contributions to Catholic education in Pittsburgh were substantial. She played a pivotal role in the regionalization of the diocese’s educational system, working tirelessly to ensure the sustainability and accessibility of Catholic education for future generations.
