Round Rock, Texas – The Round Rock community breathed a sigh of relief as 14-year-old Jeremiah Nelms was safely located and reunited with his family on Friday, August 9, 2024. Jeremiah had been reported missing earlier in the day, prompting a search effort by the Round Rock Police Department.
Jeremiah, described as a Hispanic male, 5’8" tall, weighing 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, was last seen near Lake Creek Pool around 3 p.m. He was wearing a black shirt and gray shorts at the time of his disappearance.
The Round Rock Police Department issued an urgent call for assistance in locating Jeremiah, stressing concerns for his immediate welfare. Thankfully, their efforts, along with those of the community, led to his safe return by 9 p.m. that evening.
The community expressed their gratitude and relief on social media. Paula Amaya Caudillo, a local resident and mother, shared her appreciation on Facebook, saying, "Thank you Round Rock PD for always coming thru!! Y’all did an amazing job locating him! As a mother I was out there looking too, it hits different when it’s in your own town…glad he is home."
Another resident, Rachel Murillo, commented on the description used in the missing person’s alert, expressing her concern over the cultural implications: "The Description, Hispanic… I thought Hispanic is culture, not a way to identify a missing person. Let me guess they found him at Catholic Church speaking Spanish the other European language or at a Taqueria. Am scared and hungry… Glad he is home nā¦"
The safe return of Jeremiah Nelms highlights the importance of community involvement and the swift action of local authorities in ensuring the safety of vulnerable individuals. The Round Rock Police Department, alongside the community, played a crucial role in reuniting Jeremiah with his family, bringing a positive conclusion to what could have been a tragic situation.
