Muscle Shoals Community Mourns the Loss of Dwight Kevin Self, Beloved Local Figure and Devoted Family Man

Muscle Shoals, Alabama – The Muscle Shoals community is in mourning after the passing of Dwight Kevin Self, a cherished resident and active member of the local community. Dwight, aged 64, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 10, 2024. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him, especially his family, friends, and those who were touched by his kindness and generosity.

Dwight Kevin Self was a lifelong resident of Muscle Shoals, deeply rooted in the traditions and values of the area. A graduate of Muscle Shoals High School, Dwight was known for his athletic abilities and leadership qualities. His passion for sports continued throughout his life, where he was often seen cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide and contributing as a coach for local youth teams.

After high school, Dwight pursued a career as an electrician, earning a reputation for his meticulous work ethic and dedication. He spent much of his professional life working at TVA until his retirement, where his commitment to excellence earned him the respect of his peers and clients.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dwight was a devoted family man. He was married to Linda, the love of his life, and together they raised two children. He was a hands-on father, actively participating in his children’s activities and cherishing every moment spent with his family. His grandchildren, whom he adored, were a source of immense joy and pride for him.

Dwight was also a man of deep faith, serving actively at Redemption Shoals Church. His faith guided his life, and he was known for his compassion and generosity towards others. Whether through volunteering his time or offering resources to those in need, Dwight exemplified the values of love and service that were central to his beliefs.

The news of Dwight’s passing has elicited an outpouring of tributes on social media. Chad Holden, a friend and supporter, shared his thoughts on Facebook, saying, "I sure hated to hear the news about our friend and MSCS-supporter Kevin Self. He was a class act and super talented. He served as emcee at numerous school functions, including the Rachel Wammack benefit concert for the band last May. His kids came through our school system and are making their mark in college and a career now. We offer our sincere condolences to the family and will always have fond memories of Kevin and that awesome voice of his."

Other community members also expressed their sorrow and offered prayers for Dwight’s family. Teresa Smith wrote, "Prayers for his family and the community that will miss him!" while Alicia Whitt Cochran poignantly noted, "That voice – He’s gonna be so missed."

Visitation for Dwight Kevin Self will take place on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Redemption Shoals Church, followed by the funeral service. He will be laid to rest at Colbert Memorial Gardens. Dwight’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
