Nashville Music Community Mourns the Loss of Donnie Winters, Beloved Singer, Songwriter, and Southern Rock Icon

Nashville, Tennessee – The music world is grieving the loss of Donnie Winters, a beloved singer, songwriter, and entertainer, who passed away last night. Donnie Winters was a cherished figure in Nashville’s vibrant music scene, known for his talent, generosity, and unwavering support for emerging songwriters. Donnie Winters, along with his brother Dennis, formed the Winters Brothers Band in the 1970s, a southern rock group that continues to influence and inspire to this day. Their annual Jam at the family farm became a much-anticipated event, transforming into a reunion for family and friends, filled with music, laughter, and memories.

Ronda Lee Hardcastle, Donnie’s cousin, shared her sorrow on Facebook, reflecting on his remarkable life. “Donnie was a great singer, entertainer, and songwriter who helped showcase hundreds of new writers by hosting well-known writer rounds all over Nashville for many years,” she wrote. She also recalled the Winters Brothers Band and their lasting impact, noting that they “used to host a huge Jam at their farm yearly that turned into a family and friends reunion.”

In recent years, Donnie released a solo album featuring many of his original songs, including the country classic "You’re Running Wild," a song co-written by his father, Don Winters, and Ray Edenton, Ronda’s father. The song remains a testament to Donnie’s enduring talent and deep roots in country music.

The news of Donnie’s passing has elicited an outpouring of grief and support from friends and fans alike. Donna Frost, a close friend, expressed her disbelief and sorrow, writing, “I am so very sorry. Donnie was a good friend, a great talent, a blessing to us all. I still can’t believe this. Praying for you and your family and sending much love.”

Other friends and acquaintances, including Pat Coyne and Barbara Baker, also shared their condolences, highlighting the widespread affection and respect Donnie garnered throughout his life. “We were on a cruise together once, a nice guy,” Pat Coyne recalled, while Barbara Baker added, “Prayers for all his family and friends.”
