Tuscarawas County, Ohio – Trevor E. Berndt, a 33-year-old resident of Newcomerstown, tragically lost his life late Saturday night in a devastating motorcycle accident. The crash occurred on August 24, 2024, at approximately 11:30 PM on County Road 29, also known as Edwards Ridge Road, near its intersection with County Road 32 (Crooked Creek Road).
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Berndt was traveling southbound on his black 2007 Harley Davidson Road King when he lost control while negotiating a curve. The motorcycle slid off the left side of the roadway and struck a guardrail, resulting in severe impact. Emergency services responded promptly, but Berndt was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office. His body was later transported to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital for further examination.
Emergency responders from Uhrichsville EMS, Rush Township Fire Department, and the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the Ohio State Highway Patrol to secure the area and thoroughly document the incident. Despite their efforts, the accident resulted in the tragic loss of Berndt, leaving the Newcomerstown community mourning.
Authorities noted that Berndt was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, a factor that likely contributed to the severity of his injuries. While Ohio law does not require all riders to wear helmets, this incident underscores the critical importance of helmet use, which can significantly reduce the risk of fatal injuries in motorcycle accidents.
As the investigation continues, officials are examining whether other factors, such as road conditions or speed, played a role in the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol has not released additional details but emphasizes the need for caution when navigating rural roads, particularly in areas with sharp curves or limited visibility.
The untimely death of Trevor E. Berndt has had a profound impact on his family, friends, and the broader Newcomerstown community. As they grapple with this sudden loss, the focus remains on understanding the circumstances of the accident and raising awareness about motorcycle safety.
