Newfoundland and Labrador Mourns the Loss of Beloved Politician and Hockey Enthusiast Kevin Parsons

Kevin Parsons, Newfoundland and Labrador – The community of Newfoundland and Labrador is in mourning following the unexpected death of Kevin Parsons, a well-known Canadian politician and hockey enthusiast. Parsons, who served as the Member of the House of Assembly (MHA) for Cape St. Francis from 2008 to 2021, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024. The cause of death has not been reported.

Kevin Parsons was widely respected for his dedication to public service, having made a significant impact on the Northeast Avalon region during his tenure. Before his provincial political career, he served as the Mayor of Flatrock, where he was instrumental in various community projects, including the development of a new Town Hall and Community Centre. His commitment to his constituents and the local sports community was evident throughout his career.

Christopher R. Dredge, a former Mayor of Bauline, shared his grief on Facebook, stating, "Sad day for me and so many others as we hear the news of Kevin Parsons passing. He has been a friend and great support through the years. Always a smile, a handshake and great conversation. During my time as Mayor for the Town of Bauline, he supported many an initiative and helped get a number of projects up and running including the development and construction of a new Town Hall/Community Centre. You will be missed, thought of, and mentioned regularly because you made a lot of difference to your constituents, your friends, and most definitely your family. I consider it an honour to have known you. Rest easy."

Following in the footsteps of his father, Parsons was deeply devoted to the people he served, and his retirement from politics in 2021 allowed him to spend more time with his beloved family. His legacy as a hardworking volunteer, council member, and public servant will be remembered fondly by those who knew him.

Tributes have poured in from across the political spectrum, reflecting the high regard in which he was held. As the former Caucus Chair for the Progressive Conservative Party, Parsons was known for his kindness, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Funeral arrangements for Kevin Parsons will be announced at a later date. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable career.
