Shingletown, California – Alexander Miller Zagarino, a 31-year-old resident of Oakland, tragically lost his life in a fatal two-truck collision on Friday night in Shingletown. The accident occurred on Highway 44, west of Ally Gold Way, at approximately 7:45 p.m., according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Zagarino was driving a Nissan Frontier when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle crossed the double yellow lines and collided head-on with an eastbound GMC Sierra pickup truck. The impact of the crash was severe, leading to the immediate death of Zagarino at the scene, as confirmed by emergency responders.
The GMC Sierra was carrying two passengers, Thomas Stewart, 43, and Jennifer Stewart, 38, both of whom sustained injuries in the crash. They were transported to Mercy Medical Center, where they are being treated for a combination of mild and significant injuries.
Authorities have indicated that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, though investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy. Zagarino’s body has been sent for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death, with the results pending.
The announcement of Zagarino’s death has left the Oakland community in mourning, with many taking to social media to express their grief and offer condolences to his family. His obituary and funeral arrangements will be released by his family at a later date.
