Patricia Diane Poss, Beloved McMinnville Resident and Sister of Country Music Legend Dottie West, Passes Away at 79

McMinnville, TN – Patricia Diane Poss, a cherished resident of McMinnville, Tennessee, and the last surviving sibling of the legendary Country Music Hall of Fame member Dottie West, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the age of 79. Diane was at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 2, 1945, in McMinnville, Diane was known for her vibrant personality, talent in singing and songwriting, and her exceptional skills in the kitchen. She was a devoted homemaker and a member of Newtown The Baptist Church of Christ. Diane’s love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life, particularly in the time she spent caring for her grandchildren, creating lasting memories for them.

Diane is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harold Poss, her two sons, Jammie Harold Poss and Kerry Lynn Poss, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her siblings, including the famed Dottie West, preceded her in death.

The community has expressed deep sorrow over Diane’s passing, with many taking to social media to offer their condolences. Harley Meyers sent "condolences and love," while Judy Williams and Brenda Rager offered prayers for the family. Ellen Obannon shared her thoughts, saying, "She was so very beautiful and to read how talented she was, my condolences to the family."

The funeral services for Mrs. Poss were held on August 24, 2024, at the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel, followed by her interment at Newtown Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Meals on Wheels, reflecting Diane’s generous spirit.

Diane Poss will be remembered not only for her connection to her famous sister but also for the warmth, love, and joy she brought to all who knew her.
