Paul Neves, 64, of Cumberland, Passes Away Unexpectedly; Community Remembers His Generosity and Musical Talent

Paul Neves, a beloved member of the Cumberland community, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the age of 64. Paul was known for his boundless generosity, musical talent, and deep involvement in his local community. He is survived by his wife, Terry May Wood Neves, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage.

Born in Central Falls, Paul was the son of the late Joaquim A. and Maria R. Neves. A lifelong resident of Cumberland, he spent the last two years working as an accounts receivable manager for Glove Cleaners and Safety Products in Plainville, MA, and had a longstanding career as a tax preparer with H&R Block for 26 years. His professional journey also included roles at Standard Nut and Bolt, Durham School Services, and Dattco Inc.

Paul was highly active in his community, having served on the Cumberland School Committee for 16 years, including two years as chairperson. He was a dedicated member of several local churches and a talented drummer, performing with the Lusitania Club Band, The Little German Band, and Sound Odyssey alongside his brothers.

His sudden passing has left a profound impact on those who knew him. The community has expressed their sorrow and condolences on social media, with many highlighting Paul’s warmth, kindness, and playful sense of humor.

Isabel Raposo shared, “Our love and sympathy to the entire family,” while Mandy McLaughlin posted, “My thoughts and prayers go out to Terry and Paul’s family. He was a good man.” Jeff Daniel also expressed his grief, writing, “Our condolences to the family.”

Paul’s family, especially his daughters Carlene Elizabeth Neves and Jocelyn Michelle Neves, and his granddaughter Amiyah Madison Ledlow, were the center of his world. He was a devoted grandfather, often showcasing his immense pride and joy in his granddaughter.

Relatives and friends are invited to honor Paul’s memory during visiting hours on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at J. J. Duffy Funeral Home in Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Our Lady of Fatima Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory can be made to the Park Place Congregational Church or the Cumberland-Lincoln Lions Club Scholarship Fund.
