Pickens County Community Mourns the Tragic Death of Steven Basquette in Crowe Creek Road Shooting

Pickens County, South Carolina – The community of Pickens County is reeling after the tragic death of 49-year-old Steven Basquette, who was fatally shot on Sunday night. The incident occurred on August 19, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Crowe Creek Road in Six Mile, South Carolina. Authorities responded to a 911 call reporting a gunshot wound, and despite the efforts of Pickens County EMS, Basquette was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Pickens County Coroner’s Office, led by Chief Deputy Coroner Andrew Wilson, confirmed that Basquette’s death was due to a gunshot wound. An autopsy is scheduled for August 20, 2024, to further investigate the exact manner of his death, which remains under investigation. The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office is spearheading the ongoing investigation, but so far, they have not released any details about potential suspects or the events leading up to the shooting.
