Ripley County, Missouri – Edward D. Neal, a 47-year-old resident of Poplar Bluff, tragically lost his life in a drowning incident on the Current River this past Sunday.
The unfortunate event occurred around 4 p.m. near the Current River Bridge in Doniphan. According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Neal began to struggle while swimming in the river and eventually lost consciousness. Despite efforts to save him, he was transported to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5:18 p.m. by Dr. Guthikonda.
This heartbreaking incident marks the third drowning reported in Troop E this year, highlighting the dangers present in local waterways.
