Ogdensburg, NY – Randy C. Gotham, a beloved member of the Ogdensburg community, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the age of 63. He died peacefully at his home under the care of St. Lawrence Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 23, 1961, in New York City, Randy was the son of the late Stanley J. Gotham and Macile “Mae” J. (Howland) French. He graduated from Hugh C. Williams Central School in Canton in 1979. Randy’s life was filled with love, adventure, and a deep connection to nature, which was evident in his passion for hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Randy worked for the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority in custodial and maintenance roles until his retirement in 2019. His earlier career included a position at St. Lawrence University. Known for his vibrant spirit, Randy enjoyed riding his motorcycle, 4-Wheeling with friends, and spending time with his cherished grandchildren.
Randy was predeceased by his wife, Martha L. Burton, whom he married on February 23, 1991. Martha passed away on July 2, 2020. Randy is survived by his son, Austin Gotham, and his wife Jessica, as well as his step-son, Dylan Lipinsky, and five grandchildren. He is also survived by his long-time companion, Alice VanSchaick, and several siblings, nieces, nephews, and his beloved dog, Chance.
Visitation will be held at Frary Funeral Home in Ogdensburg on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. A funeral service will take place the following day, with a Celebration of Life gathering to follow. Randy will be interred at the Oswegatchie Mausoleum at a later date.
Randy’s passing has touched many, with heartfelt condolences pouring in on social media. Angel Planty shared, "Love you Uncle Randy give Dad a big hug for me." Megan Demers commented, "So sorry for your loss! He was such a great guy, one of the ones I missed seeing when I left the CTC." Naomi Thompson wrote, "I’m so sorry for your loss. Praying for peace and comfort for you and your family during this difficult time."
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Randy’s memory to Jerry’s Run for Cancer and the St. Lawrence Valley S.P.C.A.
Randy’s legacy of joy, love, and adventure will be remembered by all who knew him, leaving behind a community that will deeply miss his presence.
