Livingston Parish, Louisiana – A devastating head-on collision on Louisiana Highway 43 near Turkey Creek Road claimed the life of 47-year-old Raymond Lexia Jr., a resident of Independence, Louisiana. The tragic accident occurred just before 6:00 p.m. on August 26, 2024.
According to the Louisiana State Police (LSP), Raymond Lexia Jr. was driving his 2001 Ford Ranger northbound when the collision occurred. The driver of the other vehicle, a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, was 35-year-old Mitchell Ballard. For reasons still under investigation, Ballard’s vehicle veered off the roadway, causing him to overcorrect and cross into the northbound lanes, resulting in a head-on crash with Lexia’s truck.
Despite being properly restrained, Lexia was pronounced dead at the scene. Ballard, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained only minor injuries. Following the crash, Ballard was arrested and charged with negligent homicide and careless operation. While impairment is not suspected, toxicology samples have been taken from both drivers as part of standard procedure.

Dianne Brewer, another friend, posted, "So sad for his life taken, Ray Ray was a sweet soul, we were friends from earlier and always will be remembered."
