Rodney ‘Rod’ Williams, a talented recording artist and musician from Newark, New Jersey, has sadly passed away. Known for his profound contributions to the music world, Rod’s death was announced across several social media platforms, leaving many fans and fellow musicians in mourning.

Rod Williams was born and raised in Newark, where his early exposure to music in the Newark Public School System sparked a lifelong passion. Initially, Rod started with the violin before transitioning to the clarinet. However, it was Grover Washington Jr.’s "Mr. Magic" that inspired him to pick up the saxophone, a decision that would define his musical career.

A versatile artist, Rod’s music spanned genres such as R&B, Smooth Jazz, Classic Soul, Old School, and New Jazz. He was not just a performer but also an accomplished producer, orchestrating and recording his music in his home studio. His performances at various venues, including "Chico’s House of Jazz" and local Jazz Festivals across New Jersey, earned him a respected name in the jazz community.

In October 2011, Rod was a guest performer at the pre-celebration party jazzfest at the Red Cat Jazz Cafe in Houston, Texas. He shared the stage with renowned artists like Dean James, Kyle Turner, and Marion Meadows. His most recent performance was in June 2012 at a jazz festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Rod was eagerly preparing for his upcoming CD release party, “Hands Down,” set to be held at "The Ivory Lounge" in San Antonio, Texas. The event was to feature special guests from the Trippin’ Rhythm Artists, including Darrell Lavigne, Althea Rene, and Yvonne Jenkins.

Rodney Williams’ music, particularly his albums "The Journey" and "Hands Down," will continue to be available on platforms like iTunes and Amazon, allowing his legacy to live on through his art.

Details regarding Rodney Williams’ funeral will be provided by his family in due course. His passing is a significant loss to the music world and all who knew and loved him.
