Roy Prewitt of Baton Rouge Passes Away at 79 – A Legacy of Faith, Service, and Family

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – The community mourns the loss of Roy Prewitt, who passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the age of 79. A beloved figure known for his deep faith, unwavering dedication to his family, and commitment to service, Roy leaves behind a profound legacy that continues to inspire those who knew him.

Roy Prewitt was described by those close to him as the epitome of a Christian man, whose life was marked by an unshakeable commitment to his faith, his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. His strength of character, wisdom, and generosity of spirit touched many lives over the years.

An Army veteran, engineer, and devoted educator, Roy wore many hats throughout his life. He served as a Bible teacher, classroom teacher, coach, and volunteer, impacting countless individuals through his various roles. Roy’s passion for helping others extended to his community involvement and his lifelong support of Louisiana State University (LSU).

Rebecca Prewitt Compretta, Roy’s daughter, shared her heartfelt tribute, noting the pride she feels for her father’s well-lived life. She described him as a man who never met a stranger and a rock of consistency in a world of uncertainty. "The ‘Roy-shaped’ hole in our lives is immense," she expressed, "but so is the pride in knowing he is reunited with mom and his Maker in Heaven."

The funeral services for Roy Prewitt will be held at Resthaven in Baton Rouge on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by a service at 10:30 a.m. The family invites all who knew Roy to attend and celebrate his life and the lasting impact he made on his community.
