Rupert, Idaho Resident Orella Lewis Passes Away After Battling Lung Cancer, Community Rallies to Support Family

Rupert, Idaho – The community is mourning the loss of Orella Lewis, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, after a brief but intense battle with lung cancer. Orella’s passing came just six weeks after her diagnosis, leaving her family and friends devastated.

Orella’s condition rapidly worsened after a large mass was discovered in her lung, which also affected her esophagus. She began radiation and chemotherapy on August 5th but tragically became septic just a week later. Despite the severity of her condition, Orella’s selflessness shone through when she declined the last available ICU bed, stating, "Give it to someone you can heal."

Orella’s family is now facing significant financial challenges related to her memorial and burial costs. In response, a GoFundMe campaign has been organized by Jamie Fitzgerald to help cover these expenses and support the family during this difficult time.

The community has begun to rally around the family, offering both financial support and heartfelt messages. Erica Parks, one of the early donors, contributed $20 to the fundraiser. The family has expressed their deep gratitude for the kind words and support they have received.

Several people have also shared their condolences and memories of Orella on Facebook. Briana Marie Vega commented, “We will miss you, Orella. Your kindness and warmth touched us all.” Jamie Hemsley added, “Rest in peace, Orella. You were always thinking of others.”

Orella Lewis was known for her ability to make everyone feel special, particularly in remembering birthdays and other important occasions. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Those who wish to contribute to the fundraiser can do so through the GoFundMe page organized by Jamie Fitzgerald. The family appreciates any support during this challenging time.
