Ruth Hester, Beloved Liberty ARC Member and "Everyone’s Grandma" in Schenectady County, Passes Away Peacefully at Home

Ruth "Ruthie" Hester, a cherished member of the Liberty ARC community in Schenectady County, passed away quietly at her home on Saturday. Known for her vibrant personality and loving nature, Ruthie had been a beloved figure at Liberty ARC for many decades, where she received support in various programs, including residential, supportive living, day habilitation, and community habilitation.

Ruthie was especially proud of her role as a grandmother. Her two grandchildren were the light of her life, and she delighted in sharing their accomplishments with everyone she encountered. At Liberty ARC, she was affectionately known as "everyone’s grandma," a role she embraced with pride and love.

Outside of her family, Ruthie enjoyed a lively social life, often spending time with friends over breakfast or gathering at each other’s apartments. Her friends fondly remember her for the joy, humor, and warmth she brought into their lives. Her hugs, jokes, and famous sweet potato pie will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Liberty ARC expressed their deep sorrow at Ruthie’s passing, noting the significant impact she had on the community. "It is with great sadness that the Liberty ARC family says goodbye to Ruth ‘Ruthie’ Hester," the organization shared on social media.

The outpouring of tributes on social media reflects the deep affection and respect Ruthie garnered throughout her life. Missy Mccall reminisced, "Omg I knew and met her when I was working at Burger King… she was absolutely wonderful." Jane Hamilton Canale shared, "Will certainly miss your smile and humor, Ruthie."
