Sara Angela Best Clem of Jasper, Alabama, Passes Away at 89, Leaving Behind a Legacy of Education and Faith

Jasper, Alabama – Sara Angela Best Clem, a beloved resident of Jasper, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024, at the age of 89. Mrs. Clem, who spent her life dedicated to education and her faith, is remembered by family, friends, and former students as a kind and influential figure in the community.

Born on November 25, 1934, in Jasper, Sara Clem led a life marked by her passion for teaching and her deep connection to her faith. She graduated from Walker High School, where she was a Majorette and excelled academically. Her love for education continued as she earned her degrees from Howard College (now Samford University) and The University of Alabama.

Sara Clem’s career as an educator spanned several decades, during which she taught business courses at multiple institutions, including Walker College, Oakman High School, and others in Walker County. Her dedication to her students left a lasting impact, with many recalling her as a sweet and inspiring teacher.

In addition to her professional achievements, Sara was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Jasper, where she found a strong sense of community and spiritual fulfillment. Her faith was central to her life, guiding her actions and providing comfort to those around her.

Sara Clem was preceded in death by her husband, Coach Glen R. Clem, who passed away in 1996. She is survived by her children, Glen Clem and Angela Clem Harbin, as well as her grandchildren, who continue to honor her memory.

Following her passing, many have taken to social media to express their condolences and share their memories of Sara. Laura Cain, who knew Sara as both a client and friend, shared, "She was my client from 1993 until recently. She shared my birthday and was a good friend. RIP Sara (Sadie) Clem." Another former student, Brandi Binkley Howton, remembered her as "my English and typewriting teacher at Oakman."

Visitation for Sara Angela Best Clem will be held at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home on Thursday, August 29, 2024, followed by a funeral service and burial at Walker Memory Gardens. The community mourns the loss of this remarkable woman, whose legacy of love, faith, and education will be cherished for years to come.
