Seaford Community Concerned as 81-Year-Old Mary Lynne Handy Goes Missing While Driving to Salisbury, MD

Seaford, Delaware – The Seaford Police Department has issued a Gold Alert for 81-year-old Mary Lynne Handy, who has been missing since the evening of August 11, 2024. Mary left her home in Seaford to pick up her son from a bus station in Salisbury, Maryland, at approximately 8:30 PM but never arrived. Authorities are increasingly concerned for her safety and well-being.

Mary is described as a white female, standing about 4’9” tall, weighing around 150 lbs., with blue eyes and black hair. She was driving a silver 2019 Chevrolet Spark when she left her residence. Unfortunately, her clothing at the time of her disappearance is unknown, and despite efforts, attempts to locate or contact her have so far been unsuccessful.

The Seaford Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding Mary’s whereabouts to come forward and contact them at (302) 629-6645. The community has rallied on social media, expressing their concerns and prayers for her safe return.

Pam Lewis shared a heartfelt message, writing, "Prayers." Patience Cannon added, "Praying for her safe return and family," reflecting the community’s collective hope for Mary’s safety. David Collins emphasized the capabilities of older adults, saying, "Just because she’s 81 years old, doesn’t mean she can’t drive and still have the ability to do things on her own. I know people older that still drive, go shopping, play sports."

Others, like Percilla Barkat Mall, offered prayers and concern, stating, "Praying for her safe return and well-being, she looks so sweet." While Carole Webster questioned why Mary was still driving, "I realize it’s a hard thing to do but why was she still driving."

As the search continues, the Seaford community remains on edge, hoping for any news that will lead to Mary’s safe return. The situation underscores the importance of community support and vigilance during such troubling times.
