Search Underway in Cambria Township for Missing 85-Year-Old John Bortmyik, Last Seen Near Maple Heights

Cambria Township, Pennsylvania – Authorities in Cambria Township are urgently searching for 85-year-old John Bortmyik, who has gone missing as of early this morning, August 9, 2024. Mr. Bortmyik, who suffers from dementia, was last seen at approximately 7 AM, traveling east on foot in the area of Manor Drive near Maple Heights. He was wearing dark blue pants, a white t-shirt, and a dark blue crewneck sweatshirt.

The Cambria Township Police Department and the Ebensburg Borough Police Department are spearheading the search efforts. Due to Mr. Bortmyik’s medical condition, he is considered an endangered person, and time is of the essence in locating him safely. Authorities have urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to immediately contact Cambria County 911.

As news of Mr. Bortmyik’s disappearance spread, community members took to social media to express their concern and hopes for his safe return. Michelle Porada shared on Facebook, "Praying for a safe recovery," while Mercedes Rummel added, "Sending many prayers."

The police have limited who can comment on their official posts, but that hasn’t stopped the outpouring of support from the local community.

Authorities are continuing their search efforts and are appealing to the public for assistance in locating Mr. Bortmyik.
