Steelton High School Mourns Loss of Cheerleader Naryah Wright After Tragic Harrisburg Shooting

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – The community of Steelton and Harrisburg is reeling after the tragic death of 13-year-old Naryah Wright, a freshman at Steelton High School and a beloved cheerleader. Naryah was fatally shot in a deadly incident that occurred early Sunday morning in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

At approximately 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, Harrisburg police were dispatched to the area of South 19th and Derry streets following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found a large crowd but no immediate victims. Shortly thereafter, Naryah was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries during surgery.

Naryah Wright was known for her involvement in cheerleading and had plans to join the track team at Steelton High School. Her death has left her mother, younger siblings, and the entire community in deep sorrow. A moment of silence was held in her memory at the school’s football field on Sunday evening.

The community has come together to support Naryah’s family during this difficult time. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover funeral expenses, and residents are encouraged to contribute or share the link. Tra’Quandea Westbrook, a relative, shared the fundraising page on Facebook, urging the community to help give Naryah a dignified farewell.

Many people took to social media to express their grief and offer condolences. Gina Rivera wrote, "What matters the most right now is who did this to this beautiful girl, not what she was doing outside, and that she gets justice. Prayers to the family right now." Another user, Ken Bowers, simply stated, "Poor soul. 🙏🙏," echoing the sentiments of many who are heartbroken over this senseless tragedy.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Harrisburg Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Naryah Wright’s obituary will be released at a later date, as the community continues to mourn the loss of this young life taken too soon.
