Charleston, SC – The Charleston community is mourning the loss of Theus Tim Sumpter, a well-known and cherished bartender who passed away on Sunday, August 25th, due to complications from a preexisting condition.
Theus, affectionately known by many names, was a familiar face in the Charleston and Mt. Pleasant areas, where he worked at numerous popular spots, including Carrabba’s, Bricco Bracco Italian Restaurant, Tsunami, and My Father’s Moustache. His vibrant personality and infectious laughter left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
“He never met a stranger,” shared Sam Trainor on Facebook. “Your happiness was so infectious. When you laughed, usually everyone around you laughed too.”
Theus was remembered fondly by friends and patrons alike for his warmth and the joy he brought to those around him. “We knew Tim from TGIFriday’s,” said Emily Taylor, recalling his role as a groomsman in her wedding. “Such an amazing person, he had the most infectious personality.”
In honor of Theus’s memory, a celebration of life is being planned. My Father’s Moustache, where he was a beloved bartender, announced they are taking a collection to support his memorial service. A GoFundMe campaign, organized by Amy Boulton, has been set up to help cover the costs of the memorial. So far, $650 has been raised towards a $3,000 goal, with contributions from several community members.
The Charleston community remembers Theus Sumpter not only for his skills as a bartender but for his ability to bring people together, his love for music and sports, and the light he brought into so many lives. As his friends and community come together to honor his memory, they celebrate the joy and kindness he shared with the world.
“Rest in peace, Theus,” read a heartfelt post from My Father’s Moustache. “Your laughter and smile will always be remembered.”
