Dayton, Ohio – Brittany Shanks, a beloved mother and wife from Dayton, Ohio, tragically lost her life in a devastating car accident on Sunday evening in Montgomery County. The accident, which occurred at the intersection of Frederick Pike and Rivers Edge Boulevard, also left four others injured, including three children.
The collision involved two vehicles, with reports indicating that one of the vehicles veered off the road before overcorrecting, leading to a head-on crash. Brittany Shanks, 35, was driving one of the vehicles involved. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her three young passengers were rushed to Dayton Children’s Medical Center, where they are receiving treatment for their injuries. The driver of the other vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirmed Shanks’ identity on Monday morning, bringing an outpouring of grief from the community. A former Jefferson Township school board member expressed sorrow over the loss, stating, “I’m deeply saddened to hear about Brittany Shanks, one of my former students. May her family, friends, and the JT Family find comfort and strength during this difficult time, and may God’s love surround them.”
The news of Brittany Shanks’ passing has deeply affected her community, with many taking to social media to share their condolences and memories. Ray Monroe posted, “The big sister you never knew you needed… can’t believe this, Brittany Shanks, you got us dizzy rn like I’m lost for words really. It’s just like, why?? Send up the biggest prayers for strength for my girls Jade Shanks, Daijah Watkins, her baby, and the family.”
Golden Asia Spence also shared her thoughts, saying, “Sending you love, comfort, and strength, being there for your friend and family.” Rayshawna Jefferson added, “I’m praying for y’all, so sorry this is happening.”
The Dayton Police Department’s Traffic Services Unit is currently investigating the cause of the accident. Funeral arrangements for Brittany Shanks will be announced by her family at a later date.
