Sherwood Park, Alberta – On Tuesday, August 13th, 2024, a peaceful walk through the neighborhood turned into a horrific accident for Ryan Brodziak, a former owner of popular local eateries including Gravy Burgers and Fries. Ryan was on his regular walk with his 11-month-old son, Ozzy, strapped to his chest and his puppy, Gouda, on a leash when a vehicle suddenly lost control and veered onto the sidewalk, striking all three of them.
Ryan and Ozzy were immediately rushed to the emergency room and later transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) due to the severity of their injuries. Ryan sustained a significant spinal cord injury, resulting in multiple fractures and paralysis. He is currently awaiting emergency surgery to relieve swelling and stabilize his spine with metal rods and screws. The extent of his recovery remains uncertain.
Ozzy, who suffered a skull fracture and a fractured arm, is under close observation at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Meanwhile, Gouda, who was also injured, has been released from the emergency veterinary clinic and is now in the care of family members.
The community has rallied around the Brodziak family during this difficult time. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support them as Ryan remains unable to work and Bailey, his wife, is still on maternity leave.
On social media, friends and community members have expressed their heartfelt support. Quincey Deters shared, "Thinking of you all, sending love and light during this time." Jan Stefanic simply posted, "Praying!" while Lane Jen offered "Thoughts, prayers, love, and light are sent."
The road to recovery for Ryan, Ozzy, and their family will be long and challenging. The community is urged to share the GoFundMe link and keep the Brodziak family in their thoughts and prayers.
