Tragic Loss in Cassville – 17-Year-Old Race Landon Dies in Tractor Accident While Clearing Fallen Tree

Cassville, Wisconsin – The small community of Cassville is reeling from the tragic loss of 17-year-old Race Landon, who died in a heartbreaking accident involving a tractor at his home on Friday, August 16, 2024. Landon, a bright young man with ambitious plans for his future, was attempting to clear a fallen tree from his driveway when the accident occurred.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Landon was using a Ford 8N tractor to remove the tree, securing it with a chain to the tractor. Unfortunately, as Landon worked, the front of the tractor lifted off the ground due to the tension, causing it to topple backward. Landon was still on the tractor when it flipped, trapping him underneath the heavy machine. A family member discovered Landon unresponsive and immediately called for emergency assistance. Despite their swift response, first responders were unable to save Landon, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Landon was on the cusp of his senior year at Cassville High School and had recently been accepted into the U.S. Army. His future plans included leaving for basic training after graduation, with the ultimate goal of becoming an attorney. His untimely death has left his family and the entire community in mourning.

Landon’s aunt, Melissa McCauley, shared the family’s grief in a heartfelt Facebook post, expressing the deep sorrow they feel at losing someone so close to realizing his dreams. Landon’s obituary reflects the bright and determined young man he was, known for his intelligence, quick wit, and love of history. His grandfather, Mark Landon, described him as "super smart and talented," highlighting his ability to bring joy to those around him.
