Tragic Ohio Turnpike Crash Claims the Lives of Tenzin Drukgyal and Son Dawa Norbu, Leaving Minnesota Community in Mourning

Tenzin Drukgyal, a respected member of the Dokham Chushi Gangdruk in Minnesota, and his nine-year-old son, Dawa Norbu, tragically lost their lives in a devastating car accident on the Ohio Turnpike. The crash, which occurred near the Fulton-Lucas county line, also claimed the lives of two others and left eleven people injured.

The Lucas County Coroner’s Office identified 46-year-old Tenzin Drukgyal and his son, Dawa Norbu, among the four deceased victims. The accident took place in the early hours of Friday morning, involving multiple collisions on the turnpike that led to extensive damage and casualties.

Dhokham Chushi Gangdruk MN, a Tibetan community organization in Minnesota, expressed deep sorrow and shock over the tragic loss of Tenzin and Dawa. In a heartfelt message shared on Facebook, the organization offered condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. "We share your grief and sorrow in this difficult time," the post read, highlighting Tenzin’s contributions to the community as a former secretary and a dedicated member who was known for his patriotism, sense of humor, and commitment to preserving Tibetan culture and history.

The crash, which occurred at approximately 5:34 a.m., was the first of three collisions that morning. It involved a passenger car and a tractor-trailer carrying sulfuric acid, leading to two fatalities and several injuries. Subsequent collisions in the traffic backup resulted in additional fatalities and injuries, compounding the tragedy.

Tenzin Drukgyal’s loss has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him. Friends and community members described him as an inspiration, a pillar of strength, and a loving father. His legacy lives on in the memories and lessons he imparted to those around him.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Ohio State Highway Patrol continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crashes. The tragic loss of Tenzin and Dawa serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring impact of community and family bonds.
