Blackhawk, South Dakota – The community of Blackhawk is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Ashlyn Jean Barse, affectionately known as "Boo Boo," who passed away on August 15, 2024. Ashlyn, who was a vibrant and beloved member of her community, leaves behind a grieving family that includes her mother, Alesha, father, Darin, older sister Lilly, and older brother Dakoda.
Ashlyn was a young girl who lived life with passion and courage. Born in 2015, she moved with her family to the beautiful Black Hills, where she attended Blackhawk Elementary School before continuing her education at West Middle School. From a young age, Ashlyn demonstrated a deep commitment to martial arts, earning her black belt in 2019 at Bright Path Martial Arts School. Her prowess in the ring led her to compete in numerous taekwondo tournaments, including the United States National Championship, where she proudly brought home a silver medal.
Beyond her martial arts achievements, Ashlyn was a dedicated athlete who excelled in volleyball, basketball, and track. Her love for music, especially for artists like Drake and Zach Bryan, filled her days with joy as she danced, sang, and made TikToks, sharing her infectious energy with those around her.
Ashlyn’s playful and mischievous nature brought laughter to her family and friends. She was known for her clever pranks, such as sneaking into her brother’s room to play Xbox when he wasn’t home or borrowing her sister’s clothes in secret. Her confidence and charisma were evident in every aspect of her life, from her love of fashion to her pride in her accomplishments.
In the wake of this unimaginable loss, a fundraiser has been organized by Cassie Paulsen to support Ashlyn’s family during this difficult time. The fundraiser has so far raised $390 out of a $25,000 goal, with contributions from friends and community members who are eager to help ease the financial burden on the Barse family.
Ashlyn’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her fearless spirit, boundless love, and the joy she brought to her family and friends will never be forgotten.
The community is encouraged to continue supporting the Barse family through donations and by keeping Ashlyn’s memory alive in their hearts.
