Montgomery, NY – The Montgomery community is mourning the loss of Josiah Dottin, the 21-year-old son of Pastor Danny Dottin and Lady Christine Dottin of the Amazing Grace Apostolic Church. Josiah tragically passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024, after reportedly jumping from the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. His body was recovered from the Hudson River the following day by the State Police Underwater Recovery Team.
In response to this devastating event, the community has rallied around the Dottin family. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by Brydon Brett to help with funeral expenses and to honor Josiah’s memory. The family released a statement on the GoFundMe page, expressing their profound grief and asking for privacy during this difficult time.
Bishop John C. Williams of Faith Alive Ministries shared his sorrow on social media: “It’s with profound sadness that we have to share the sudden and tragic passing of our beloved nephew Josiah Dottin! Josiah is the son of our dearest friends and covenant brother and sister Pastor Danny Dottin and Lady Christine Dottin. Our hearts are extremely heavy right now. But we submit to God in this tragic situation. And we trust that he knows all things and will activate the revelation of this moment! Please keep the Dottin family and all of us who are connected and family in fervent prayer! Even through tears, our faith is still intact.”
The outpouring of support on social media has been significant. Patricia Crowley posted, “Josiah was such a nice young man. Prayers for his family.” Danny Dottin, Josiah’s father, expressed the family’s need for financial support: “The untimely passing of our son Josiah Dottin has left us ill-prepared for the next steps. You have an opportunity to help monetarily (by giving money). The Go Fund Me Page is now active and ready to receive donations. There is so much to do, and we can benefit from your generosity. In lieu of sending money to Go Fund Me, you may use Cash App – Christine Dottin @ $dottin57 please type Josiah in the memo line. Thank you in advance.”
Josiah’s death has highlighted the importance of mental health awareness and the struggles faced by young individuals. His vibrant personality and kind heart were well-known in the community, making his loss deeply felt.
The Amazing Grace Apostolic Church has urged the community to continue to keep the Dottin family in their thoughts and prayers. They also encourage contributions to the GoFundMe campaign to help ease the financial burden on the family during this time of mourning.
As the family prepares for Josiah’s funeral, they are leaning on their faith and the support of their community to navigate this immense grief. The details of the funeral arrangements will be shared in the coming days, and the family has expressed their gratitude for the love and support they have received.
